DotNetNuke

History of DotNetNuke

The inception of DotNetNuke occurred during latter half of 2002. A guy by the name of Shaun Walker developed and released a new version of the software called “IBuySpyPortal”. While Microsoft corporation had initially released the IBuySpyPortal into the open source community to demonstrate, at that time, the implementation of the new ASP.net 1.0 platform, it also gave the open source community a platform base to develop on. Quickly after Shaun Walker released his new version of the software, which added several enhancements and innovations to the software, a large community of developers (including Clear Graphix team members) around the world quickly took notice and within a few months, in February of 2003, DotNetNuke was born.

Released in February of 2003, DotNetNuke, named after the .net platform and the word “nuke” which was a commonly used word for open source web content management systems, quickly took off. Since the initial release of DNN 1.0, Dotnetnuke is now in version 5 and as become one of the leading open source CMS (contnet management systems) used today.

In 2006, DotNetNuke was officiallly incorporated and is currently funded by Sirerra Ventures, August Capital and Pelion Venture Partners. The DNN corporate office is located in San Mateo, California.

Today, the DotNetNuke corporation offers 3 versions of the DNN platform: DNN Community Edition, DNN Professional Edition and the DNN Enterprise Edition. All DotNetNuke edtions have a very large community backing with over 8,000 3rd party applications available for reasonable prices at Snowcovered.com. While being part of the Microsofts annual Dev Connections in Las Vegas for the past 4 years, DNN continues to grow and evolve quickly in the ever so fast paced technology world. DNN’s easy-to-use, plug and play type interface adapts well to both large and small companies, hobbyists and web developers.

We initially joined the DNN community when there were approximately 1700 registered developers early in 2003. Now there are over 818,000 regsitered developers with around 100 new everyday. We truly are experts on the DotNetNuke application framework and been actively developing web solutions with it for over 8 years.
